Pressure Treated Lumber

Welcome to Pressure Treated Lumber! Here on this website I'll try to provide you with some guides and tips when choosing the right pressure treated wood. There are so many uses for it and if there was no PT lumber available, many outdoor decks, gardens, etc., wouldn't have been built or they wouldn't last as long as they are currently lasting. There are big misconceptions everywhere when it comes down to pressure treated wood, but do not worry, I'll provide you with enough info so you feel safe when buying one pressure treated material.

Pressure Treated Wood

I've been working as an architect for many years now and I've used many times a pressure treated lumber in all my projects. Whether I'm using PT wood on decks and many other outdoors uses, they've always provided me a good solution for all my projects. Since so many clients were a bit skeptical about PT lumber safety and use, I've decided to put up a small website to direct them and also hoping to help more people out there who might have the same doubts

Pressure Treated Lumber Safety

Firstly let me assure you, there is no risks whilst using pressure treated plywood or general wood. This misconception started 20 years ago when companies and corporations used chromed copper arsenate (CCA) as the mainly preservative for wood. This preservative could indeed be toxical but even this one wasn't such a big deal. But anyway, legislation came since there were so many companies producing and shipping all US these pressure treated wood for decks and other uses that they had to put a legislation on. So, to sum up, they stopped using CCA and are now using alternatives like amine copper quat (ACQ) and copper azole (CA).

Pressure Treated Lumber Prices

Pressure Treated LumberThese two preservatives are way safer since they the human body does not absorb them. You might ask "Why haven't they used these preservatives since the beginning?" Because by using them, pressure treated lumber prices would rise and this would not be a good deal for you or for them. But, legislation came and they had to make the change.

If you are wondering if these preservatives are less effective than the old CCA, the answer is no: they are as effective as CCA being the only downside its price.

Also, you might check out this video below that I have found on Youtube. It is a interesting video showing a few uses that you can have with your wood. Also, it follow the green movement that is going on these days and becoming quite a standard among countries.

Well, that is enough for a start. I just wanted to make it clear that it is safe to use pressure treated wood for decks, for retainining walls or for whatever other use you might have. Be aware that they are most recommended for outdoor use. If you plan to use them indoors, then you might want to check with your salesman and ask for guidance.
